Matt Hartwell - Visual Consultant
Matt Hartwell is originally from Salem, VA where he graduated from Salem High School in 2004. Upon graduation, Matt began his college career at Morehead State University studying Euphonium under Dr. Stacy Baker. After deciding to change majors he transferred to Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA to study Business.
Matt began is Drum Corps experience as a 17-year-old Baritone player with The Capital Regiment Drum and Bugle Corps from Columbus, OH. In 2005, 2006, 2007, and 2008 he was a member of The Cavaliers Drum and Bugle corps from Rosemont, IL playing both Baritone and Tuba, winning the DCI World Championship in 2006. Matt had the honor to live, teach, and perform with The Aimachi Marching Band from Nagoya, Japan during their 2007 season. In 2010 Matt was asked to design shows and teach Marching Band methods in Muscat, Oman for His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said. The production was designed for The Royal Guard of Oman and was viewed by His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said of Oman, King Abdullah II of Jordan, Her Majesty The Queen of England, as well as many other influential world leaders.
Matt now resides and teaches in the Richmond, Va area. He is currently involved with Powhatan High School Marching Band and Indoor Percussion, Hickory High School Marching Band, Thomas Jefferson High School of Science and Technology Marching Band and Indoor Drumline, George Mason University Indoor Drumline, and The Santa Clara Vanguard Drum and Bugle Corps.
