The BC Renegade Line was in full force tonight at the 59th annual BC Alumni BBQ. They were honored to share the stage with the BC Cheer Team, BC's Centennial Stars, and the many coaches and student athletes representing BC Athletics. Let's not forget our fellow BC alums from Mento Buru! Thanks as always to Becki Whitson for making it happen!

We upgraded to higher powered speakers this semester, so these are available now. The speakers are very efficient (400 watts program), so they don't need a high powered amp to operate at their potential. The horns are currently rotated for horizontal use, but they are user rotatable should you want to orient them vertically. The speakers show normal cosmetic wear; They are carpet covered, and the carpet needs to be re-glued in some spots. The carts have not been repainted this season, so they could use a new coat. The casters are all in good shape. The mixer... Vans left for Dayton International Airport at 4:30am, and we all crossed our fingers for a smoother travel day than the epic trip out to Ohio.
The BCDL has certainly become experts at group travel in a very short time. Even those who were flying for the first time ever could now probably navigate some of the trickiest travel scenarios that might come their way. Luckily there were no snags at all on the way home, and there was plenty of time to reflect on the week, think about next year, and maybe most importantly...sleep! Hard to imagine...that this all came from an idea...an idea that grew. While we were shooting to make finals, we just missed the cutoff. We placed a very respectable 13th out of 24 groups in our division, but only the top 12 moved on to finals. While this was a bittersweet outcome, we certainly had a lot to feel good about Friday night.
This gave our members the opportunity to watch other groups from our division on Saturday, and it was nice to see the competition from all over the nation that we had gone up against. We also spent the evening watching the World Class groups perform at the UD arena. It was a hype to cheer on the BCDL alumni competing with Pulse and RCC! Congrats to Steven Drummer (RCC), Naomi Bacop (Pulse), Chris Drummer (Pulse), and Efren Gutierrez (Pulse). And although they didn't make it to finals, congrats to Noe Casolco (POW), Malcolm Nolbert (POW). Way to rep the BCDL! What a long day...good thing Steak 'n Shake is open 24 hours :) Friday...WGI Percussion World Championship Prelims...the day we had been preparing for all season. And even though the members knew we could expect a variety of weather, nothing could really prepare them for the 40 degree (30 degree with the wind chill factor) temperatures we experienced in the lot during warm-up!
Nevertheless, the adrenaline was pumping as they pushed through the blustery conditions. Backstage provided shelter, warmth, (and oranges). The members refocused and pushed on for their prelims performance. Despite the significance of what they were about to do, there was an observable calm as the group took the floor...like they had done this many times before. There are no words that could be written about the performance. For the members, staff, volunteers, and fans that were there...they know. Day three...the first "normal" day...and everything not only went as planned, but so much was accomplished. Edison College again served as a great rehearsal facility, and there was a steady stream of passerbys that popped into the gym to see what was going on.
The night was capped off with two solid runs of the show. The site is pretty boomy, and it was a challenge dealing with this environment, but it certainly seemed to fuel the performance level of the members. Both runs were broadcast live on Facebook for the fans back home. You can still check them out on the BC Band page. http://www.facebook.com/BCBand |
